Trip Planning

Plan and manage adventure based trips, events and programs.

Over the course of the Outdoor Adventure program I have had the opportunity to plan several trips. The first trip I planned was during the Outdoor Adventure Leadership class in Semester 1. I planned a backpacking trip along the Bruce Trail with Sophie. See the link below to check it out. In my fourth semester, for the Advanced Expedition course, I am the trip leader for my group’s backpacking expedition along the Skye Trail in Scotland. I am supervising as we put the trip plan together. Based on all our knowledge from throughout the program we have created a very detailed trip plan for our trip. Both these trip plans have allowed us to plan and manage adventure based trips, events and programs. See the photo of me writing down the plan for our sea kayak expedition route from Britt, Ontario to Killarney Provincial Park.

Both the Bruce Trail and Skye Trail trips plans include these sections; trip plan summary, purpose of trip, activities, locations, itinerary/route, participants, equipment, food and water, transportation, communication, budget, safety plan, and references. Both can be used for actual trips, but the Skye Trail has more detailed information.

From my first attempt at a trip plan with the Bruce Trail to my latest with the Skye Trail trip plan, I have learned so much. With this latest trip plan, the itinerary/route, participants, food and water, transportation, budget, and safety plan sections have way more detail. The information is also more well-researched and reliable. We will be relying on this trip plan when we go on our expedition from April 6-16th, 2024.
