✦ Outdoor Adventure
Algonquin College from September 2022 to April 2024
The two-year Outdoor Adventure Ontario College Diploma program at Algonquin College prepares students for working in the outdoors, leading adventure trips and teaching outdoor skills. Half of our time in the program is spent outdoors, doing activities like whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing, nordic skiing, snowboarding, wilderness first aid, etc. We also take part in several expeditions. The other half provides us with theoretical knowledge like risk management, business management, ecotourism, human resources, and computer applications. Jeff Jackson is the program coordinator of this program.
✦ Graphic Design
Algonquin College from September 2018 to April 2021
The three-year Graphic Design Ontario College Advanced Diploma program at Algonquin College uses a combination of theoretical and hands-on learning that taught me skills in design, typography, image, colour, coding, motion graphics, interaction and production from industry-connected faculty. This program also taught me problem solving, learning to accept critique and feedback, managing complex projects, and working well in teams.

✦ 5-Day Backpacking Guide Expedition/Course in the Adirondack Mountains, New York, US

This backpacking guide course allowed me to practice and hone my skills as a guide in many ways. I was able to learn valuable skills in leadership, group management, navigation, reading weather patterns, camp craft, as well as in risk and injury management. We had a range in weather from rain to snow which lead to very challenging conditions.
✦ 4-Day Canoe Guide Expedition/Course on the Madawaska River, ON
Algonquin College Course, October 2023
The canoe guide course was a way for me to learn how to run a successful whitewater canoe trip. We learned how best to lead, manage the group of canoes, and assess risk. These skills ensured we made the appropriate decision, whether to run a rapid, to line the canoes down, portage the gear then run a rapid, or to do a full portage. There was also a camp craft element that ensured we had wilderness cooking/backing skills. My co-guide and I made some delicious meals including green chilli mac & cheese, peach crumble and dutch-oven chocolate chip & pumpkin muffins. During this course I earned the Solo & Tandem Moving Water Canoe Skills and Leadership Camping Skills certifications from Paddle Canada.

We spent five days cycling in a loop through Quyon, Dunrobin, Ottawa, Carleton Place, Renfrew, and back to Forester’s Falls. During this course I further developed my cycling, leadership, road safety, and navigational skills. We purchased food along the way so I also bettered my ability to make delicious and wholesome food while sticking to a meal budget. Through this course I earned the Cycle Tour Guide certification.
✦ 9-Day Sea Kayak Expedition from Britt to Killarney, Georgian Bay, ON
Algonquin College Course, September 2023
During this expedition, I was able to build upon my sea kayaking, leadership, group management, ecological interpretation, and Leave No Trace skills. While on this course I earned the Sea Kayak Level 2 Skills certification from Paddle Canada and the Master Educator certification from Leave No Trace.
