Emergency Response
Initiate an effective and methodical response to emergency and rescue scenarios.
I have had several opportunities to develop my emergency response skills throughout the Outdoor Adventure program. I have taken two Wilderness First Responder courses, a River Rescue Level 2 course, a Risk Management for Outdoor Adventure course, a Mental Health First Aid Skills course, an Intro to Mountain Rescue course, and a Ski Patrol course. All of these courses had allowed me to practice and further my skills in initiating an effective and methodical response to emergency and rescue scenarios. See my emergency response certifications below.
My most recent practice of emergency response was through the Ski Patrol course at Calabogie Peaks. See the photos of me acting as a patient in a sled while Jess takes me down the hill. John, from the Calabogie Ski Patrol team is supervising. This was how we practiced bringing injured people down the ski hill. This is how ski patrol responds to a traumatic injury emergency. The other photo captures a moment during a practice scenario when we were rescuing a practice mannequin by moving them, spine-stable, into the sled. This is how ski patrol responds to the emergency of moving an unresponsive patient towards definitive care.
Through these courses I have learned to avoid and manage emergency situations in a large variety of situations and terrain. From water to forest trails to ski hills, I am now equipped with the knowledge and skills to help myself and others.
