Certifications
Build technical skills and acquire industry recognized certifications.
As a part of the Outdoor Adventure program I earned my Wilderness First Responder certification after 80 hours of training. Through this training I learned the principles of patient management and decision making. I earned my original WFR certification during semester 2 in April, 2023 and my recertification during semester 4 in January, 2024. These courses have allowed me to build technical skills and acquire an industry recognized certification. This was just one of many certifications I earned through the program. You can see my WFR certification below.
During this course we were taught to place emphasis on prevention, treating traumatic injuries, assessing illnesses, managing the scene of an accident, providing long-term patient care, being a responsible leader and liability, preparing advanced medical first ait kits, cleaning wounds, procedures for evacuation, and working with Emergency Medical Services. Check out the video below for an example of a secondary physical assessment. These are the technical skills I built in order the earn the industry recognized certification below.
Through this course I learned how to avoid and manage emergency medical situations in the wilderness. It was very valuable to recreate scenarios I might encounter in a career in the outdoor adventure industry. I now feel to prepared to handle emergency medical scenarios in the future.
